The 2004 Presidential Deathmatch!

Welcome to my grand-spanking-new political commentry thing, here just for the 2004 Presidential election. I’ll try and bring this terribly interesting collum to you daily, but I’ll probably forget all about it by tomorrow. But yea. On to the fun!

So, we have around seventy days left until election day, and we know a fair bit about each of the major candidates (For those still living 30 years ago in Vietnam, G. W. Bush (R) and John F. Kerry (D)) after various speeches, debates, etc. Oh wait, no, we don’t know jack shit about either of them. That’s right, they’re both to busy bitching about Vietnam. ‘WAAA NO NO I R WAR VETERAN I R WINNING 3 HOLE YELLOW FARTS!’ and ‘STFU STFU STFU OR I WILL HAX0R U KERRY U R A BAD MAN U R NOT A VETERANN OK NOW I R GUNA DDOS ATTAK J00000!’

So, how about we go over what few facts we have about each candidate?

Bush

• Hates homosexual people.
• Doesn’t like John Kerry.
• Comes from Texas (or so he wants you to think).

Kerry

• Won THREE Purple Hearts.
• Doesn’t like Bush because Bush doesn’t have three Purple Hearts.
• Served in Vietnam, where he won three Purple Hearts.

With any luck whatsoever, we may know one additonal fact about each candidate before election day. Maybe something like WHERE THEY STAND ON ANY AND ALL ISSUE(S). Alas, I fear that any real discussion will happen before election day, as everyone is far to busy bitching and moaning about who did what thirty years ago in Vietnam.

It is time to report back on the picnic.

I arrived at the park about ten minutes early, only to find no one else was there yet. I waited for a while, and finally some people came.

So we put the tablecloth on the table, set out the food/drinks we have, and make fire. Then we sit around and wait for more people to come.

So someone starts making burgers, and then we realize we had no cheese. So someone points out that we have the fake nacho cheese I brought. =X

So we all sit around and talk until someone pulls out this crazyass cardgame called Fluxx. Yes, Fluxx, a game designed for crackheads by crackheads. I’m not even going to attempt to tell you how it works, it would be to confusing.

So various people (including myself) play Fluxx for the next hour or three. During this time some people go on a hike (no thanks) and return.

And yea. It we pretty fun. The installfest is coming up soon, but I don’t know when.

With great regret, I’m afraid I have to report that Owlog, my first foray into OO-style programming, has been retired due to the fact that the code sucks.

As some of you may have seen, the code was OO, but it wasn’t really taking full advantage of object orientation. I figured this out when I tried to add a new feature (and failed). The code just wasn’t all that great. =/

So to replace Owlog, I have brought in AJ-Fork, a very nice blog which uses no database. The admin section is full of pretty buttons, I have bbcode support, icons for catagories, smilies…the works.

Earlier this morning I converted the Owlog data into an AJ-Fork-readable format. So yea. I’m writing this at Fork’s temporry location, but it should be moved onto Wintermute (OwlManAtt.com’s server) in an hour or eight.

Oh, and all of the old data is in an archive. You can see it there.

I ordered a Stuffed Tux from thinkgeek on Wednesday. And it arrived on Friday, with the cheapest ThinkGeek shipping manner. Oh, and did I mention it wasn’t sent out of their warehouse until Thusaday evening? Tux made damn good time from New Jersey to CT.

In other news, I’m hanging out on a new IRC network, Oceanius. Tal0n and friends have their new channel there (alas, no blinded though), and it’s pretty cool. I think tal0n and axis are server opers, too.

And tomorrow is the picnic. We are supposed to have a nice day. w00t.
