Slow blogging month, eh?

That’s right ladies and gents; Owl is still alive, well, and coding. Before we get into business, it would be proper for me to wish you all a merry Christmas. But I shan’t, so let’s get into the meat of this post.

The first thing on everybody’s mind this fine Christmas evening is probably “Owl, Owl, Owl! What didja get! C’mon, tell me!”. This year, I got a fairly basic haul - a few ThinkGeek shirts, some novels, Ajax In Action, and $50 in ThinkGeek gift certificates. I have lots of pictures of the last few days, though. I shall be uploading them soon.

In other news, I bit the bullet and joined the Zetapets development team last month. That and work has kept me pretty busy. Zeta formally announced v3 to the userbase today, so I can talk about it a bit.

v3 Forums Teaser

My primary charge has been recoding one of the most heavily used portions of Zetapets - the forums. The current forums use SQL incredibly inefficiently, so they are putting a huge load on the database.

The forums are almost complete, finally. The user side is 100% DONEZ0R3D, but the administrative backend is still…lacking. All of the thread operations work (delete/edit/move), but I have not gotten around to post editing / deleting / flagging as moderated yet, nor the forum meta administation (forum ADE & permission manager).

I’ve spent a few hours working on the new register page today, though. It’s pretty hot. It utilized Ajax to do username checking.

<3 Ajax.

So yea. In other news, InfinityB is working on a new (sort of) modular IRC bot written in PHP. It’s the new hotness.
